Cobus Kleynhans is an experienced Clinical Psychologist, with over thirteen years’ experience in delivering psychological assessment, treatment and support, across the developmental spectrum and in a wide-range of clinical settings, to a diverse client population.

He has spent ten years in London undertaking specialist training in the techniques and practice of Brief Therapy and systemic Couples and Family Therapy.
His approach to therapy and to the goal of facilitating change is deeply shaped by an interest in important developments in modern philosophy, especially those that are most relevant to contemporary psychology.
In particular, he has used significant insights from the philosophy of language and knowledge to develop a therapeutic practice known as “transformative dialogues”. “Transformative Dialogues” focuses on generating new possibilities for positive and productive action – that is, helping individuals, couples and families to get unstuck.
Cobus also has an interest and has pursued extensive development in mindfulness-based treatment models. Mindfulness-based therapies have gained extraordinary ascendancy in modern psychology. There is a wealth of research in the area of neurobiology that shows how malleable the brain is and, more importantly, how mindfulness helps to enhance and promote healthy brain function.
In therapy, Cobus uses mindfulness-based practices to help individuals and couples to become aware of their attachment styles; these attachment styles are established in the early childhood dynamic between the primary care giver and child. The therapeutic aim with some individuals and couples is to make visible and revise the way they typically relate to their partners, parents, children, colleagues and even to their own experiences of themselves and the world, thereby creating new possibilities for connecting with others.
Cobus has a broad interest in Evolutionary Psychology as it represents the necessary framework for understanding attachment theory and mindfulness-based therapies.
In addition, Cobus has been involved in the development and delivery of training and teaching programs from courses in Communication Theory, Developmental Psychology and Anger Management.
