Wendy Taylor is a Brisbane-based Psychologist with extensive work experience in the early childhood and counselling fields.
Wendy has worked with children, adolescents, young adults and parents across a range of issues. Working from a client-centred perspective, Wendy assists clients to identify, develop and build on individual strengths and community resources, to support ongoing capacity for personal growth and sense of fulfilment across the life span.
Counselling for Adolescents and their Parents
In working with adolescents and young adults, Wendy appreciates the potential for growth and also the inherent challenges involved in this developmental stage. The many physical, cognitive, social and emotional changes that are a part of this phase of life can be both exciting and daunting for young people, and also for their parents. She recognises that both parties can be in need of support as teens make their transition to adulthood.
Wendy also recognises the challenges many teenagers face in attending a counselling session, and therefore understands the need for openness and collaboration in relation to the counselling process. Wendy appreciates both the richness and also the challenges of the parenting role, and understanding these challenges has lead her to complete Practitioner training for:
- Triple P (Primary Care, Teen and Pathways);
- Circle of Security;
- Matre Meo;
- Tuning into Kids.
Working from a client-centred and strengths-based approach, Wendy offers a range of evidenced based therapeutic methods aimed at assisting clients to find their own unique path for personal growth and self-fulfilment. She respects each client’s individual view of the world. To ensure that the outcome of each counselling session supports client’s needs and goals for the work, feedback is an important and integral part of each session.
Wendy’s work and study has also included a focus on supporting other counsellors in developing strategies for self-care and resilience in the human service field. Her post graduate research included published studies into the effects of supervision on vicarious trauma in counsellors. She maintains a strong interest in the promotion of counsellors’ self-awareness of the impacts of their work on themselves and their clients. Wendy has worked as a counselling supervisor for over 10 years.
At Vision Psychology, Wendy is able to assist clients with concerns such as:
- Adolescent change;
