Registered Psychologist Lauren Burrow was born and raised in Brisbane. After completing her Honours Degree at the University of Queensland, Lauren worked in the vocational sector, with a Job Network Provider assisting unemployed people to return to work.
Following this, Lauren relocated to country NSW (Dubbo) to commence working with a Vocational Rehabilitation Provider, where she assisted injured people to return to work.
Upon her return to Brisbane, Lauren took on a role at the Department of Child Safety as a Child Safety Officer.
With itchy feet once again, Lauren took a big leap across the country and returned to work with her previous employer in Vocational Rehabilitation, however this time in Perth, WA. Whilst in sunny Perth, Lauren completed her two years of supervised practice to become a Registered Psychologist, after which it was the wish of her now husband to return to Queensland to be closer to families. For the next two years, Lauren was based in tropical north Queensland (Townsville), where she worked as a Psychologist with a Job Network Provider, and also seeing clients through the Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS).
Throughout Lauren’s years of practice, she has continued to expand her knowledge and use of various psychological techniques, and considers the following to be her major areas of practice:
- Perinatal Depression (both women and their partners);
- Grief and Loss;
- Adjustment to Injury and other major life changes (including divorce and separation);
- Vocational counselling;
- Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counselling Medicare accreditation;
- Experience working with teenagers and pre-teens;
- Provision of Assertiveness and Anger Management techniques;
- Workplace issues, including bullying, harassment and work stress;
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy;
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy;
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy; and
- Positive Psychology.
Lauren endeavours to provide her clients with a welcoming, reassuring and non-judgmental experience. She believes that the individual is more important than a diagnosis, and that identifying strengths and positives is an important part of overcoming difficulties in life. Counselling sessions are seen as a collaborative experience, where both psychologist and client can learn from and teach the other, whilst working towards agreed goals.
Each client that presents to Lauren is encouraged to identify helpful strategies to overcome their issues, taught to broaden their existing skills in coping and functioning, and provided with psycho-education to assist with understanding and managing the symptoms they are struggling with.
