The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is available for children and adults who have a disability and require additional supports to improve their quality of life.
There are different support categories (e.g. capacity building, improved relationships, improved daily living) which include funding for services such personal care, assistance at home, community participation and more specific allied health services such as Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Psychological services.
Some participants with complex needs are also provided with a support coordinator to link them to appropriate services and manage service agreements between providers. NDIS plans can be self-managed, plan-managed or agency-managed, offering different levels of control and flexibility for clients.
Does NDIS Cover Psychology?
Funding for psychological services may include funding for therapy sessions, preparation and development of specific individualised resources, as well as reports for NDIS reviews. Attendance at stakeholder meetings and communication between allied health providers to discuss progress and goals is also important.
Therapy sessions under the NDIS scheme are usually on a fortnightly basis and the main goals are usually around skill development such as emotional regulation, and learning to use different skills such as making and maintaining friendships, decision making and improving confidence.
People with a psychosocial disability (mental illness or severe mental health issues) may also receive funding under the NDIS based on the level of impairment and overall level of functioning. Many participants need supports to learn some independent living skills as well as assistance to participate in activities within their local community.
Help with NDIS Plan Brisbane
I was involved in the initial rollout of NDIS and have worked within the NDIS space for at least 10 years. During this time, I have worked with children and adults with mild-moderate Intellectual disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD, as well as clients with psychosocial disability. We work together on the goals listed on their NDIS and monitor progress over the course of the plan.
Please contact our reception team if you would like to enquire about the range of psychological services available using NDIS funding. Please also check out the NDIS website to learn more about how the scheme works.
