A fascinating read for laypeople interested in how our psyche works. It is well written with full descriptive explanations of the psychological aspects of what the author, Martin Seligman and others perceive as behavioural characteristics and their malleability.
Seligman goes into the many studies done on chemical dependencies, weight loss and other areas many would like to change in their personal behaviours. He also explains well how the nurture versus nature argument is being studied (the twin studies from Scandinavia are the most interesting).
The bottom line is that he posits that there are really just something we can change, and (contrary to some popular self help believers) some things can’t be changed.
I learnt so much from reading this, most of all, I learnt personal acceptance of me. I don’t have to ‘fix’ everything.

Cheap Child Cognitive Testing
Our intern psychologists provide cost effective options for assessing children’s cognitive abilities. Often schools or parents may be concerned about how their child is going. Should a child be kept down? Do they need tutoring? Do they have a learning disorder? Or a mental health issue like anxiety?
Intermittently we have intern psychologists available to offer this testing for a reduced fee. We have limited spaces for testing, but low cost testing starts at $650 which includes an interview, the assessment and explanation of the results. If you require a report, that may require an additional fee. In order to go on our waiting list please contact reception on 3088 5422 and ask about our child cognitive testing by an intern psychologist. They will find out more about your needs and let you know the approximate waiting times and cost for what you need.
